For many smallholder farmers in Uganda, access to finance remains one of the biggest barriers to growth. Without sufficient capital, even the most hardworking and ambitious entrepreneurs struggle to expand their businesses and improve their livelihoods. For Musisi Bosco of Luweero District, access to finance through ECLOF Uganda became the catalyst that transformed a small-scale farm into a thriving commercial agribusiness.

At 35-year-old, Musisi Bosco is a dedicated agripreneur from Balitta Village, Katugo Parish in Luweero District. As a father of 3 school-going children, he has always been determined to provide a better future for his family.

When Bosco began farming in 2016, his operation was small. He cultivated pineapples on only half an acre of land. While he recognized the potential in farming, limited capital prevented him from expanding his business. The challenge was further compounded by fluctuating market prices, particularly during the rainy season, making earnings uncertain and long-term planning difficult.

In 2019, Bosco obtained his first loan of UGX 1,000,000 from ECLOF Uganda. This marked a turning point in his farming journey. Through continued access to financing, which has since grown to UGX 3,500,000, combined with a strong and supportive relationship with ECLOF staff, Bosco was able to invest strategically in his farm and gradually expand his operations.

Bosco appreciates ECLOF’s affordable interest rates, respectful client engagement, and tailored loan repayment arrangements. With ECLOF’s support, he expanded his farmland from half an acre to more than ten acres and diversified into pineapple and banana production, creating multiple income streams. Today, his agribusiness employs three permanent workers and provides additional seasonal employment opportunities, contributing to the local economy.

ECLOF’s financial literacy training also helped Bosco strengthen his business management skills. He now keeps farm records, plans production cycles, and reinvests profits, enabling continued growth. Despite ongoing challenges, he remains optimistic about the future.

Musisi Bosco’s story demonstrates the transformative impact of inclusive finance. He is grateful for ECLOF’s backing, which has helped him support his family, educate his children, create jobs, and expand his farm. He encourages other entrepreneurs to make use of ECLOF’s services that can help them grow.

By providing responsible financial services together with capacity-building training, ECLOF continues to empower rural entrepreneurs like Bosco to unlock their potential, strengthen their livelihoods, and contribute to sustainable community development.
