Regional Consultant – Latin America (Microfinance)

PurposeECLOF International is an international network organization supporting microfinance institutions (MFIs) within its network across Africa, Asia, and Latin America. We seek a Regional Consultant for Latin America to provide strategic guidance, fundraising support, capacity building, and networking opportunities to our affiliated MFIs across the region. This consultant role is ideal for a senior professional who brings deep expertise in microfinance, boards and governance, a wide industry network and a practical understanding of the Latin American financial inclusion landscape.
About ECLOF International

 

ECLOF International is a Swiss foundation based in Geneva. It is the hub of a global network of 14 independently governed microfinance institutions operating across Africa, Asia, and Latin America. ECLOF International represents the network to global partners, provides technical assistance and governance support, manages debt and grant facilities for the network, and holds equity stakes where applicable.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Serve as the primary liaison between our organization and Latin American member MFIs.
  • Proactively drive growth and development of member MFIs through hands-on technical assistance on governance, impact and social performance management, risk management, and financial sustainability.
  • Represent ECLOF International on the local boards of directors
  • Organize training workshops and networking events for member institutions.
  • Support MFIs and ECLOF International in fundraising for investment, loans, and grants.
  • Represent the organization at regional industry events and forums.
Qualifications & Experience:

 

  • Proven expertise in microfinance, financial inclusion, or related fields.
  • At least 20 years of experience in executive management, consulting, project management, or advisory roles.
  • A “people person” able to build high impact relationships with local management and boards
  • Strong understanding of Latin American financial sector regulations and microfinance trends.
  • Experience working with diverse stakeholders, including MFIs, investors, and donors.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Language & Geographic Scope:
  • Fluency in Spanish and English (Portuguese a big plus).
  • Must be based in Latin America.
  • Will require ad-hoc travel to various countries within Latin America and from time to time to Europe.
Contract Details & Compensation:
  • Start date: July 2025
  • Consulting Basis: Independent contractor arrangement; not an employment position.
  • Duration: Flexible, project-based assignment.
  • Compensation: Competitive consultancy fee based on experience and scope of work.
  • Travel Expenses: Covered when required for field visits.
