Social and political instability
Many of the countries in which ECLOF International operates are subject to compromised governance structures.
This hinders effective participation and accountability between citizens and those in power. Social and political instability thus take root and perpetuate themselves, resulting in the increased vulnerability of poor people.
In working with vulnerable and marginalized communities, ECLOF International is often exposed to the extreme consequences of these weaknesses.
The associated risks can lead to disruption of operations and in extreme cases, the collapse of services altogether, where individuals and communities are forced to leave their homelands due to violence or political intimidation.
The challenges of managing an effective operation in some countries can be very real. Choices and decisions in developing a stable operation require proactive planning and intervention to ensure the risks and impact of disruption perpetrated by social and political instability are managed and reduced to a minimum.
What decision makers say and do determines if our services will reach our clients or not. For example, when inflation is galloping, regardless of its causes, the value of any capital exposure can be diminished very quickly. This would eventually impact our capacity to continue our work, the consequence being that impoverished people in these countries would be deprived of our services.
