Mrs. Wijayalaxume Sebastian from Andankulam, Mannar is another victim of Sri Lanka‚Äôs civil war ended in 2009. Her husband was killed in the war and she lost her house and property. During the conflict she was dis­placed more than five times in just two years. Before finally resettling in Andankulam, she had to spend another two years in a camp for displaced people.

 

Fostering a savings culture and driving rural development

Ei Ma village in Kyonpyaw township has a population of 227 (90 male and 137 female) living in 79 households. Most villagers are smallholder farmers and sometimes work as casual laborers on the fields. ECLOF started serving the village with capacity building and loans in 2013. Five groups were recruited with 5 members per group. ECLOF clients gather weekly in the village community building for group meetings, training and loan transactions.
